Our Focus on Nutrition

As an experienced food service provider, we know how important nutrition is. We offer healthy options giving the opportunity to create great eating habits at any stage in life. Lessing's will cater to special dietary needs including food allergies, gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian meals.

Special Dietary Accommodations

Our online menu format was specifically designed to provide our customers with the most comprehensive nutrition information and help them easily navigate their dietary restrictions. This system provides an at-a-glance guide for allergen-management, as well as, highlighting vegan, vegetarian, low-carb and keto-friendly choices. Additionally, the menu features options that meet the calorie and sodium criteria of our health conscious Fresh Start program. A full nutrition panel can be accessed online for all of our menu items. This information includes total calorie information, as well as, macro- and micro-nutrient content per the USDA labeling guidelines. All packaged menu items are clearly labeled. Other items will feature signage at the point-of-sale.

Our corporate chef and in-house nutritionist have developed menu items to accommodate almost every dietary need. The majority of our offerings can be modified to suit customer’s requirements or tastes. We welcome and encourage our customers to speak directly with our dining staff. It is our pleasure to assist and serve in any way we can!

Sustainability

Conservation, Recycling + Sustainability

Sustainability

Lessing’s has taken a company-wide stance on reducing food waste, making more informed and environmentally-conscious decisions and incorporating as many sustainable practices as possible into our daily operations. Lessing’s recently launched a "Do Good" campaign by keeping the wellness and preservation of our planet in mind every day, both in and out of our kitchens. In 2017 the first "Save the Beaches" beach cleanup was held, and has been held annually ever since. In 2018, the company made a commitment to reduce plastic consumption by doing away with plastic straws and takeout containers. Below are a few examples of our sustainability efforts.

Lessing's Sustainability Campaign

  • Prioritizing local farm-fresh produce and local foods from our local partners and creating menus to highlight the bounty of the season and reduce our carbon footprint
  • Giving preference to local vendors to support local economy and reduce our "miles to plate"
  • Focusing on environmentally friendly products such as organic ingredients, locally-raised and antibiotic free meats, fair-trade coffees, r-BST free milk and sustainable line caught tuna
  • Conducting staff training in food waste reduction. This includes making efficient purchases, preventing overproduction and repurposing leftovers.
  • Reducing the use of bottled water by serving filtered water, flavored with fresh fruit and herbs
  • Reducing waste by using bulk-packed condiments instead of individual packets
  • Reducing waste by using bulk-packed natural fruit juices and filtered water instead of individually packed juices
  • Utilizing the City’s Department of Sanitation’s recycling and compost program
  • Reducing waste by using biodegradable "green" paper products and eliminating Styrofoam
  • Purchasing "green" chemicals, which are 99.7% phosphate& phosphorus free. This means they are not dangerous to our water system and ocean life.
  • Conserving water by having water-limiting faucets in kitchens
  • Conserving energy by having air curtains on walk-in refrigerators & freezers
  • Conserving energy by turning off equipment and lights in the kitchen when not in use
  • Maintaining all kitchen equipment to ensure that it runs at maximum efficiency
  • Replacing outdated equipment with more energy-efficient pieces during kitchen renovations
